PIA - The Soul of a Machine

In the near future, advanced, organic-hybrid service androids imported from India have replaced the human labor force in the United States.

When an android escapes from a blackmarket shipment and wanders to a young woman’s apartment, the meeting presents a clear challenge to the standard definition of “life”.

PIA is an independent film project commissioned by ITVS   (Independent Television Service) as part of their new “FUTURESTATES” initiative where 11 filmmakers are given the opportunity to present an original vision of the American future in a short film.

Written and directed by award-winning Sundance director Tanuj Chopra (PUNCHING AT THE SUN), PIA is a unique look at the evolution of the soul in an age of technology.

Smartly written and supported by a deeply experienced production team, the film also features a talented, well-known cast including:

• Popular Hollywood actor, Ajay Naidu, who has dozens of high profile roles including roles in OFFICE SPACE, SUBURBIA, BAD SANTA and more.
• Famed Indian actress Tillotama Shome who played Alice in Mira Nair’s smash hit MONSOON WEDDING.
• Up and coming actress, Pia Shah, whose film, CANADA, is screening at several respected film festivals in Los Angeles.

PIA will be shot entirely in the Bay Area from October 15 - 19 and is scheduled for wide release through ITVS in early 2010. The film will be showcased online and featured on national cable television as well as presented through international outlets.
